Stacey, a Senior stylist at Legends who is the Kerastase Ambassodor recently converted a lot of clients to the  MoroccanOil products.  Moroccanoil is made from a blend of Argan oil and vitamins and the product is harvested under a free trade program which supports families in Morocco.

The Original Moroccan Oil treatment is several products in one - a finishing product, styling product and a shine product. All while also protecting against UV damage, heat damage and providing extra conditioning to the hair.

What Stacey loves about the oil is that It isn’t heavy or greasy, and yet it makes a great difference in how much shinier and softer chemically treated hair looks and feels after washing and conditioning.  Stacey recommends adding just a 2p-sized amount before blow drying (avoid over applying it however - start with a little and work in more if you need it). Then use a bit more when the hair is fully dry/straightened for extra shine and protection.

What she notices most is the incredible shine and how soft and smooth the ends become. It doesn’t weigh down hair or cause product build-up between shampoos. This product is also very concentrated, so a bottle will last you many months with usage a few times a week. The smell of the product is also fantastic, a spicy, aromatic blend that was present, but not cloying for me, throughout the day.

This is also great for people looking for a de-tangling product, or a heat protection product before flat ironing. For curly hair, a touch of this oil helps out a lot with keeping the frizzies at bay.

If you have any questions then please email.

We are sure you will love it.  We do!!

Holiday Make-Up & Tanning Tips http://www.theshinyhairshop.co.uktopic.php?blog_id=5 [CDATA[

How to adapt your makeup for a summer beach break

When heading off for a summer beach break you’ll need to alter your makeup routine to adapt to the (hopefully) sunny weather.

A resident makeup artist at the London School of Beauty and Makeup suggested some top tips for what to pack and what to leave at home.

A heavy foundation certainly won’t be needed, especially once you have built up a tan.

She suggested swapping your normal base for a tinted moisturiser to give a lighter coverage.

Waterproof products are also a good idea, she said, as they can prevent you from looking like your makeup has melted off your face!

A pressed powder can get rid of any shiny areas and cream blushers and eyeshadows will sit better on tanned skin than powder.

Finally, she recommended using a lip gloss with a sun protection factor to keep you safe out in the sun’s rays.

This summer’s makeup trends include bold colours and fuchsia lips. According to Vogue, bright sunglasses and dramatic eyes were all the rage on the spring/summer catwalk

It’s best to fake it if you are naturally pale.

In search of a golden tan each summer, 40 per cent of us Brits ignore sun protection advice when we jet off on holiday.

HolidayExtras conducted a survey recently, which found 15 per cent thought that getting burnt was just part of the travel experience!

“If you are desperate to look bronzed it is best to fake it,” Rebecca Freeman from the British Association of Dermatologists advised.

She suggested using self-tanning products or visiting a beauty salon for a spray tan as a possible alternative to sitting out in the sun.

St. Tropez’s self-tanning products now come with a new technology - Aromaguard - which eliminates the tell-tale biscuity smell that gave many fake tans away.

If you feel a bit put off by trying a fake tan at home, then their Everyday Gradual Tan may well appeal.

Sumptuously rich and infused with aloe vera, you can build up a gradual, natural-looking tan by replacing your everyday body moisturiser with this product.

Tanning Safely. The Facts. http://www.theshinyhairshop.co.uktopic.php?blog_id=4 [CDATA[

Tanning Safely – the facts

I love the new perfect legs from St Tropez!!  We’ve all had days when you want to wear a skirt only to look down at your legs in horror at the milk bottle whiteness of them!  This fantastic product solves that.  First you put on the “Everyday” lotion in the white pump and then you cover with the “leg make-up” from the dark side which gives you a transfer resistant, beautiful tan.  Some of my clients have even gone swimming in it and have found that although St Tropez don’t claim that it is waterproof, as long as they didn’t rub their legs it stayed on.  How fantastic is that!  And of course the next day the Everyday lotion has developed and you have a great tan underneath.  I also found that the creaminess of the Everyday lotion made the leg make-up go on really smoothly, so no streaks! Fantastic!!

Harmful effects from sunbeds and sunbathing.

There has been more in the news lately of the very real danger of skin cancer from sunbeds and too much time spent outdoors in the sun, so it makes even more sense to get your colour from products like St Tropez etc.,

I think what everyone tends to forget is that nature didn’t give us the tanning response in the skin because it looks good – it is the skins response to trauma and is a protective mechanism to shield our skins from the harmful effects of the sun.  So cover up, use plenty of high factor sunscreen, don’t sunbathe between 11am and 3pm, (this is usually the hottest part of the day) and if you like to look tanned use one of St Tropez’s bronzing products such as the Everyday cream, even when you are on holiday, to give you a golden glow.

Coming soon…………Just been visited by our St Tropez rep who had three gorgeous new products to show us.  Some beautiful, shimmery bronzing pearls which you can not only use over your cheeks and body but you can actually pick out the extra large pearls and use them on your eyes.  They look really good especially on blue eyed girls!!  There is also a new mouse bronzer, which is deliciously smooth and silky and a compact bronzer which is a lot lighter in colour than their traditional bronzer, (which I know has boat loads of fans but is not for the fair skinned amongst us) which has a really silky texture making it so easy to apply ]]
Straightening Iron Tips http://www.theshinyhairshop.co.uktopic.php?blog_id=3 [CDATA[

Straightening/Ceramic Iron Tips

Can’t live without your iron’s? Once you know how to achieve that sleek smooth look it's hard to go back. It doesn’t matter which flat iron you use, they all damage your hair with over-use and inappropriate use. The heat keeps your hair dry and over time will damage the ends of your hair.

top tips to help make the most of your straightening irons.

1. Keep your iron clean. It will last longer and do less damage to your hair.

2. Use a styling aid to prevent frizz before you blow dry. They can seal the ends of your hair locking out frizziness. Use after blow drying to get rid of frizz.

4.Comb your hair  on the section you are using first, before running the iron through it.

5. Try avoiding using any products until you finish straightening out your hair.

6. Use small sections. The smaller the section the flatter and more weightless your hair will be.

7. Use even pressure while stroking your flat iron from the root to the end without stopping on any part of the sectioned hair.

8. Use a wide bristle brush on your hair while brushing your desired shape into place.

9. Use a lightweight serum to smooth any frizz left over. You'll only need a little.

10. Let your iron cool; clean its surface with a cloth so youll be ready to use it again tomorrow.

St Tropez questions answered? http://www.theshinyhairshop.co.uktopic.php?blog_id=2 [CDATA[

1. Can I swim once I have applied St Tropez tan?
You must not wash, bathe, swim, shower or exercise within the development time. You can swim once your tan has developed but swimming in the sea and chlorinated pools may result in your tan fading more quickly.

2. Can St Tropez be used during pregnancy?
Yes, our main tanning agent is dihydroxyacetone, which has no known toxicity. St. Tropez only works upon the uppermost layers of the skin and cannot get into the bloodstream from normal application. However, be aware that hormonal changes during pregnancy (especially during the first 3 months) may affect the development of the tan. Do not apply to the breast area if breastfeeding.

3. Can I apply St Tropez over Stretch marks?
Yes, carefully apply St. Tropez Bronzing Lotion to the area with a cotton bud. Leave for at least 8 hours, wash away guide color then apply your all-over tan as normal. If the tan is not dark enough, repeat approximately every 8 hours until the stretch mark or scar is disguised.

4. Does St Tropez protect me from UV exposure?
No. There are no sun filters in St Tropez products so it’s very important that you still use a sun protection product with sufficient levels of SPF when exposing your skin to the sun.

5. How does St Tropez work?
St. Tropez formulations contain a unique combination of two completely safe active ingredients that work together to give a gorgeously natural looking colour that fades naturally, too. The first, dihydroxyacetone (or DHA for short) is a colorless sugar that interacts with the amino acids in the surface layer of the skin to produce a temporary color change – your tan. This ingredient is combined with Erythrulose, a naturally moisturizing ingredient derived from raspberries, that works in the same way as DHA but it develops more slowly, giving you a smoother color that lasts longer and fades more evenly.

6. How long do I need to wait before showering?
Ideally leave it for 8 hours – the tan will keep developing for up to 24 hours

7. What is the difference between self & gradual tan?
Self tan is a product that provides a medium to full strength shade. It is applied to the skin and left to develop for a period of time. The color will develop for approximately 8 hours and will last 2 – 10 days depending on skin type and how you care for your tan. A gradual tan is a gentle tan that can be built up to a medium to full strength shade when applied over a period of time.

8. Why do self tanners smell?
The characteristic smell doesn’t come from the product but from a chemical reaction on the skin, however St. Tropez is different from everyone else because we’ve developed Aromaguard™, a revolutionary new fragrance technology, that replaces that tell-tale self tan aroma (by a minimum of 70%) with a soft, light, fresh-scented fragrance.

9. Why is St Tropez different?
We’re different because we give an entirely natural-looking result, first time every time. When we launched we made a major technological breakthrough in self-tanning because only our formulation had a unique combination of DHA and aloe vera that prevented the skin dryness often associated with self tanning lotions. More recently we made another innovative coup by adding an ingredient sourced from raspberries called Erythrulose. Expensive, but well worth it, this ingredient helps boost moisture and give a more even tan that will last longer.

10. Will i turn orange or go to dark?
You will not turn orange – our self tan range contains a green pigment to help counteract any orange tinge. Our products are uniquely formulated to work with your natural skin tone so, as your tan develops it will only go as dark as your skin would naturally tan. So you don’t need to worry about putting on too much – only missed bits can give an uneven finish.

11. Will my tan streak or go patchy?
The St. Tropez self tan range contains a guide color so you can see exactly where you put it. You don’t need to worry about applying too much – only missed bits can give an uneven, or patchy finish. The St. Tropez Everyday range doesn’t contain a guide color but it does leave a wet sheen on the skin so you can see where you have applied
